KITE Team: Derek Hsu

Ever since he was a child, Derek has been drawn to computers. But this curiosity developed into a more serious interest when he was introduced to computer programming in middle school. As he experienced the fulfillment of creating his own app, he knew that coding was something worth pursuing. The way that programming called for logical and innovative thinking made it stand out from other subjects. With experience in languages such as JavaScript, Python, Kotlin, and PHP, Derek only hopes to expand his knowledge in computer science. As the next step, he wants to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn about coding. So when he was given the chance to join K.I.T.E, he was eager to help out, believing that all people with an interest in programming should be able to learn and experience it for themselves.
Derek currently serves as the executive coding officer of KITE. He helps KITE achieve their mission by creating interactive videos for their computer science courses. You can see him teach in KITE's free python course.
